Biography
Dr. Jian Ling received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in July
1986, from the East China Normal University in Shanghai, China. He received
the M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in May 1993, from the
University of Houston in Houston, Texas. Upon completion of the Master’s
degree, He worked as a research assistant on the development of artificial
heart in the Department of Surgery, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston,
Texas. In 1994, he joined in the Department of Bioengineering in Southwest
Research Institute (SwRI), San Antonio, Texas, as a Research Engineer. He
involved in the development of several medical devices. He became a Senior
Research Engineer in 1997. While working in SwRI, he obtained his Ph.D.
degree in Biomedical Engineering in December 2001, from the University of
Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas. His dissertation is to develop Raman
imaging microscopy to visualize drug actions in living cells.
At SwRI, Dr. Ling is currently developing the Raman molecular imaging
program for the application to the medical diagnosis and drug development.
His interests also include the application of advanced signal processing,
image processing, artificial neural networks, and fuzzy logic techniques to
biomedical signal analysis and modeling.
