Biography
Dr. Shizhong Liu received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in
electrical engineering from Tsinghua University,
Beijing, China, in 1992 and 1995, respectively, and
his Ph.D in Electrical and Computer Engineering from
the University of Texas at Austin in 2002,
specializing in digital image/video processing and
communications. His Ph.D research is DCT-domain video
foveation and transcoding for heterogeneous video
communications, in which a real-time video streaming
technology, with optimal visual quality for any given
bit rate, was developed. He is now with Physical
Optics Corp., focusing on video compression and
communications technologies. During the summer of
2002, he worked in Microsoft Research on fast motion
estimation and compensation for scalable video coding
system. He worked in Tsinghua University as a research
engineer on wireless communication system from 1995 to
1996, and Motorola Electronics Ltd. Beijing, China as
a software engineer on mobile cellular communication
networks from 1996 to 1998. His areas of expertise
include digital image/video processing, multimedia
communications, wireless communication networks, DSP,
VLSI and RF circuit design. He is the author or
co-author of 9 technical papers in digital image/video
processing and communication field.
