Biography
Hamid Rahim Sheikh completed his Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from
the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan, in 1998 and
worked for a few months for And-Or Logic, Islamabad, Pakistan, before
joining The University of Texas at Austin in Fall 1999. He joined the
Laboratory for Image and Video Engineering (LIVE) in January 2000 as a
research assistant. Hamid completed his MS in May 2001 and his PhD
in Spring 2004. He currently works with Texas Instruments Inc. in Dallas, Texas.
His MS work was on real-time implementation of foveated video
coding. During Summer 2001, he interned at Texas Instruments, Dallas, Texas,
with their Imaging Business Unit on video codecs for TI's Digital Still
Camera (DSC) line of processors. His research interests include Human Visual
System modeling for image processing and compression, image and video
codecs, embedded implementation of image and video codecs and full-reference
and no-reference quality assessment for images and video. He enjoys
translating Urdu poetry into English, and pestering his parents.
Hamid is a TxTEC Fellow 2001-2002.
Hamid is fluent in Punjabi, Urdu and English.
